We’ve made an important update to Read&Write for Windows to ensure continued access to the Picture Dictionary feature for learners and employees who rely on it every day.
This update is now live globally for both Read&Write for Education and Read&Write for Work.
What’s changed
The Picture Dictionary feature in Read&Write uses a third-party provider called Widgit. Widgit is shutting down an older version of their Picture Dictionary service, which means that customers using older versions of Read&Write for Windows may see this feature stop working.
To prevent disruption, Read&Write for Windows has been updated to support Widgit’s newer service.
If you’re already on the latest version, you don’t need to do anything.
What you need to do
To make sure Picture Dictionary continues to work as expected, customers should update to: Read&Write for Windows version 12.0.90
For some schools, districts and organisations, this update will happen automatically. Others choose to manage updates manually, so an admin-led rollout may be required.
We’ve published a support article with step-by-step guidance to help IT teams update smoothly.
Why this matters
Picture Dictionary plays an important role in supporting understanding:
- In education, it helps students build vocabulary and comprehension without interrupting learning.
- In the workplace, it supports neurodivergent employees to understand unfamiliar words, work more confidently, and stay productive.
Unexpected loss of access can disrupt lessons, workflows, and confidence. Staying up to date helps ensure these supports remain available when they’re needed most.
Designed for continuity and control
We know that schools, districts and organisations carefully plan when updates are rolled out. This change doesn’t remove that control, it simply highlights when an update is essential to keep key accessibility features working.
By staying on the latest version of Read&Write for Windows, users can benefit from:
- Continued Picture Dictionary access
- Improved compatibility with third-party services
- A more reliable and future-ready experience
At Everway, we’re committed to making sure our tools remain dependable, accessible, and supportive, in classrooms, workplaces, and beyond.
Updating Read&Write for Windows helps protect consistent access to understanding for every user.
