We’ve introduced updates to Exam Mode in Read&Write to give educators greater clarity and control during exams and assessments.
With this update, AI voices and most online voices are automatically hidden when Exam Mode is turned on. Helping ensure the right tools are available at the right time.

What’s new
AI voices automatically hidden in Exam Mode
When Exam Mode is enabled, AI voices are immediately removed from the voice list. There’s no need to restart the toolbar, the change happens instantly.
This helps educators feel confident that only approved voice options are accessible during exams and assessments.
Online voices hidden in Exam Mode, with regional exceptions
Online voices are also automatically hidden when Exam Mode is turned on, again with no restart required.
Scottish and Welsh online voices will remain available in Exam Mode. This is because there are currently no offline alternatives for these voices, ensuring continued support for students who rely on them.
