We’ve introduced updates to OrbitNote that strengthen integration with learning management systems and improve reliability in classroom workflows.
This release includes the launch of D2L Brightspace support, refinements to teacher and student flows, and fixes that ensure a more stable reading and annotation experience across LMS platforms.
What’s new
D2L Brightspace is now live
OrbitNote is now integrated with D2L Brightspace, expanding access for schools using this platform.
Educators and students can open and work with PDFs directly within Brightspace, supporting a more seamless digital classroom experience.
Improved teacher and student workflow
We’ve refined how OrbitNote works inside LMS environments to better align with platform behaviour.
The PDF viewer is now read only in Brightspace Content View. This prevents annotations from being lost after a page refresh, creating a more predictable experience for both teachers and students.
We’ve also disabled the OCR tool within this workflow. Previously, using Scan Text created a copy of the file, which interrupted the Brightspace process. This update ensures files remain connected to the LMS and function as expected.
These changes help protect student work and reduce confusion during lessons.
LMS analytics expansion
We’ve expanded LMS analytics visibility across:
- Google Classroom
- Schoology
- Canvas
- Brightspace
For Canvas and Brightspace, we’re able to identify teacher and student usage separately. This allows for clearer insight into how OrbitNote is being used at the classroom level.
For Google Classroom and Schoology, role level differentiation is not currently available, but overall usage data remains accessible.
This supports schools and districts in understanding adoption and engagement across their learning environments.
What’s fixed
Speech in annotations
We’ve resolved a bug that prevented text to speech from working within annotations.
Students can now reliably use speech tools when reviewing comments or interacting with annotated content. This ensures accessibility features work consistently across learning materials.
Supporting reliable digital learning
For educators, these updates mean:
- Stronger integration with Brightspace
- More reliable handling of student annotations
- Reduced disruption during lessons
- Clearer insight into platform usage
For students, they support:
- A more stable experience when accessing PDFs in their LMS
- Confidence that their work will not be lost
- Consistent access to speech tools within annotations
By improving LMS integration and strengthening reliability, OrbitNote continues to remove barriers in digital classrooms, helping educators focus on teaching and students focus on learning.
