Automatic citations and smarter highlight organisation, coming soon to Read&Write

Read&Write automatic citations

We’re introducing two updates to Collect Highlights to make research and writing easier for educators and students.

This update is coming soon to Read&Write for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

What’s new

Automatic citation of sources
Students can generate citations in formats such as MLA, APA and Chicago, automatically creating a bibliography from their research.

New filtering and view options
Highlights can be grouped by source or filtered to show only highlights from the current page, making research easier to organize and review.

Designed for real classroom writing

Research and extended writing place multiple demands on students. They gather information, evaluate sources, organize ideas and communicate clearly, often all at once.

These updates reduce friction in that process.

By making research and writing more seamless, students spend less time managing formatting and more time focusing on their thinking.

For students, this means:

  • More organized research
  • Clearer writing
  • Greater independence and confidence

For educators, this means clearer insight into student research, more consistent writing outcomes, and less time spent correcting citation errors.

Building more accessible classrooms

Not all students approach research and writing in the same way. When organization and citation become barriers, understanding can be more difficult to demonstrate.

By making research and writing more manageable, Read&Write supports different ways of thinking and learning, helping educators create classrooms where more students can participate and succeed.
