Read&Write Rewordify now displays in accessible purple highlight

Rewordify with purple highlight

We’ve made a meaningful accessibility upgrade to Rewordify in Read&Write for Chrome and Edge. Simplified text, previously shown in italics, can now be displayed using a subtle purple highlight, offering a clearer and more comfortable reading experience.

What’s new?

Rewordify helps learners by simplifying complex words and phrases. Until now, those replacement words appeared in italics. While useful, feedback from educators and students, particularly those with dyslexia or visual processing challenges, made it clear that italics can be difficult to read.

The new purple highlight style provides a gentler visual cue. It still draws attention to simplified text, but without the strain that italics can cause.

Why it matters

This enhancement is all about accessibility and comfort.

  • Easier to read, especially for learners with dyslexia
  • Clearer identification of simplified words
  • More inclusive by design, based on direct user feedback

It’s a small visual change with a big impact on readability and focus.
